ABE C. PLETT
June 30, 1925 – October 8, 2016
Abraham Cornelius Plett was born on June 30, 1925, the third child of Cornelius A and Elizabeth (Kroeker) Plett. He passed away on October 8, 2016 at the Bethesda Regional Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba.
Dad is survived by his three children: Shirley, Randy (Twyla) and Terry (Shirley), all of Landmark. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Tiphanie (Luke) Wiebe, Alexandria (Dustin) Knutt, Chris (Cristy) Plett, and Janelle Carriere, as well as five great-grandchildren: Sadie Wiebe, Kinley Wiebe, Jethro Plett, Hadessa Plett and Dara Knutt.
At the beginning of September, Dad began to feel very unwell, and on September 4, 2016 he was admitted to Bethesda Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an inoperable cancerous tumour in his abdomen, and where he remained from then on. On September 15, 2016, we were privileged to be granted a day pass for him, and Randy and Twyla were able to bring him back to the farm, where much of the family enjoyed a pizza lunch together on the patio on a beautiful autumn day. This was to be his last visit to the farm he loved. He remained in hospital, growing steadily weaker, until his death on Saturday, October 8, 2016. One of Dad’s enduring traits was that he did not complain about his lot in life, and indeed the staff in hospital remarked numerous times about that fact. Dad was at peace and ready to go to heaven throughout the weeks in the hospital. Dad, you showed us how to die.
The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Bethesda for their care and compassion toward Dad in this last month. Also for all the visits he received in the hospital: he deeply appreciated each one who came to see him.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mike Plett officiating. Interment followed at Prairie Rose EMC cemetery.
Rest in peace, Dad: you fought a good fight.
